Hyatt Regency San Francisco SOMA Review

This past fall, I decided to spend a night in San Francisco to avoid commuting home from work, and as this is one of the few full-service Hyatts in Northern California that I hadn’t been to, I decided to give it a shot.

I arrived right around 8 P.M, and found an elegant and bustling entrance. There was no line at check in, so the process went smooth and quick. I had booked a King Room, and as a Globalist was upgraded to a King Corner room. No suites were showing available in the app. The agent gave me my two bottles of water and my breakfast vouchers and sent me on my way.

My assigned room was 2901, and I made it there with ease. I was pleased with how upscale everything felt on the way… the entrance, the elevators, and the hallways.

I opened the door to my room and was taken aback by the smell of weed. I stepped back into the hall, and contemplated just dealing with it, but it was too prevalent. I went back to the lobby, told them of the issue, and requested the same room category. I was sent back up to room 2725, which had no smell.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and offered lovely views of San Francisco looking west and south. There was a wireless phone charger by the bed, and plenty of lamps and lighting. The shower perplexed me, as while it had good pressure and heated up quickly, there was a cut-out in the glass by the toilet and no shower door. By the time I finished both the toilet tank and floor were soaked.

Before bed, I decided to go downstairs to check out the Regency Club. There I found a space that was elegant, spread out, and calm. Nobody else stopped by as I snacked on M&Ms and trail mix. There was also yogurt and a variety of sodas and Ales available.

I went back to the room, and passed out quickly in the comfortable bed.

In the morning, I made it to the buffet right after opening at 7 A.M, and there were already several people there. I ordered some hot chocolate and grabbed some eggs, bacon, a waffle, sausage, and a pastry. Everything was quite good, with the waffles being a highlight for me. Albeit the eggs should’ve been kept a little bit warmer.

I had an early shift, or I would’ve spent more time perusing, but I’m already looking forward to returning for a booking I have in the summer, as this struck me as the most upscale Hyatt in the city.

Cheers!
