In the last 6 years, I’ve had a chance to visit every Park Hyatt Property in North America. My most recent was a 3 night stay at the Park Hyatt Toronto. In most cases I had top-tier status with Hyatt, and in all cases I stayed in a suite or premium suite. While I could normally never complain about such lavishness, I did want to rank them and share my reasons. Here are my thoughts:
7. Park Hyatt Beaver Creek
In no way does this feel like it belongs in the Park Hyatt portfolio. Not in terms of service, nor the quality/design of the room, and even the quality of the food and beverage. Maybe something was just off since ours was a summer visit, but for me, this is easy to rank at the bottom. A very meh breakfast to top it off.
One-night stay 2021, Park Fireside Suite.
6. Park Hyatt Washington D.C
My stay here was short and sweet, but the room needed a refresh. Staff were friendly and the lobby was gorgeous. I skipped on breakfast since I didn’t have status at the time.
One-night stay 2020, Park Jr. Suite.
5. Park Hyatt Aviara
I visited before and after the remodel of this property. If I were ranking based on my first visit, it’d be a spot further down. I found the suite layout to be a tad awkward, but it was spacious and well-appointed. Waterslides at the pool were fun. Food was quite good at the lobby-bar. Ember & Rye restaurant had not yet reopened. Top notch breakfast on our second visit (post remodel). The first time was rather shameful.
One-night stay 2015, Park Suite. One-night stay 2024, Pool Suite.
4. Park Hyatt Chicago
This was the first time we ran into an animal ambassador (RIP Parker), and we also had a supreme dinner at NoMI. There were several service misses here, including having to make some requests more than once. Our suite was awesome and we loved the fresh furnishings and remodel, but unfortunately the tub drain plug wasn’t working, and maintenance took too long to get it repaired before we had to leave. Enjoyable but not memorable breakfast.
Three-night stay 2023. Mindfulness Suite.
3. Park Hyatt Toronto
Our stay here was mostly fantastic, with a great dinner overlooking downtown, a terrific upgrade, and service that was 90% on-point. Once again, our bathroom tub had a stopper that failed, and since they had no replacement part, they were able to move us on the third night to an even better suite. Housekeeping tossed some treats that we were hoping to enjoy (which I have to take some accountability for—I didn’t make it clear we wanted to keep them). Complimentary house car worked out great for us. Crème Brulee French toast for breakfast was superb.
Three-night stay 2024, One Bedroom Corner Suite. Moved later to One Bedroom Corner Deluxe Suite.
2. Park Hyatt New York
A little bit of nostalgia at play, since we launched our overseas honeymoon with a three-night visit here in 2017. In most ways, our visit here was perfect. Every moment was a treat— from enjoying the atmosphere of the pool, overlooking the city from the fitness center, and cozying up to some TV in the living room with room service desserts and rain bouncing off the curved windows of our room. I can’t deny I still suffered the Park Hyatt curse here…. Which is that at many Park Hyatt hotels, I find myself waking up drenched in sweat. I later determined the cure is to request a flat sheet every visit, so that I don’t rely on the extremely insulated comforter for warmth. I returned several years later for a single night (before moving to the Centric for NYE), and still enjoyed our visit, albeit not quite so nostalgic for that. Lobster scramble was breakfast of choice on our first visit, and a far superior decision than the Park Scramble we ordered through room service the second time.
Three-night stay 2017. One-night stay 2022. One-Bedroom City View Suite.
1. Park Hyatt St. Kitts
My number one Park Hyatt property in North America (and 7th favorite property overall) is the Park Hyatt St. Kitts. A year after opening, the hotel was offering extremely attractive rates and deals that could be paired with Hyatt Prive benefits. Not only did I lock in fourth night free plus an upgrade, I also booked a room that (at the time) included Spa credit as part of the room benefits. We enjoyed ourselves enough that we ended up extending our stay an extra couple of nights (cutting back time in Miami on our return). To be clear, service here was the coldest of any of the aforementioned properties, but the room and grounds were bright, airy, and beautiful, and food was great all around (with additional restaurant options within walking distance or easy access to others with the hotel shuttle). We also loved being able to take a boat from the property across to Nevis island.
I will note that the room’s plunge pool was too cold for comfort (in fairness, our visit was in mid-November), and at today’s rates, I’m not particularly inspired to return. Unlike the other properties listed (which were a-la-carte), this included a significant breakfast buffet, which was particularly excellent.
Seven-night stay 2018, Park Executive Suite (Now Plunge-Pool Rooftop Deluxe Suite).
Ultimately:
No stay has been truly perfect, but some have certainly stood out more than others. The only property I really can’t see myself returning to is Beaver Creek, but even that is more due to location than quality of the property.
